VANESSA MONTIES
I’m interested in why and how people engage in identity work, what makes sense for people in organizational settings and what processes workers develop when they face change, stigmatized work or critical situations. I use qualitative data (ethnographic work and interviews) as the main methodological resource for my research. My empirical settings are the police force, longshoremen and firefighters. I’m also interested in processes involved in emotional intelligence and how it impacts our perceptions, social interactions, and well-being.

This paper was based on the ethnographic study that I carried during my PhD. It lasted one year and represents more than 1200 hours of observations and interactions.
